Concussion: The most common head injury in sports, concussions can cause mental status changes and disrupt brain function. Symptoms can appear immediately or take hours or days to show up, and include confusion, dizziness, headache, and memory loss.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI): Can be caused by a forceful blow to the head or body, or when an object enters the brain. Symptoms can range from mild to severe, and include headaches, motor dysfunction, sensory changes, and cognitive issues.
